Climbing combines physical movement, technical skill, and mental focus to scale vertical terrain—whether indoors or out. It’s a sport with many forms, each offering different experiences and challenges. Some focus on strength and movement, others on route-finding, rope systems, and risk management.
Main Types of Climbing
-
Indoor Climbing & Bouldering – Climb artificial walls with padded floors (bouldering) or roped routes (top-rope or lead). Great for beginners and training.
-
Sport Climbing – Outdoor climbing on bolted routes using a rope and harness. Focuses on technique and physicality with fixed protection.
-
Trad Climbing – Short for “traditional”, this involves placing your own gear in the rock for protection. It requires technical skill and judgement.
-
Bouldering (outdoor) – Climbing short but difficult problems close to the ground with crash pads. Strength and problem-solving are key.
-
Alpine & Multi-pitch Climbing – Longer, often remote climbs that combine route-finding, rope systems, and endurance.
Getting Started
You can begin with an indoor taster session or outdoor intro course, learning how to use a harness, tie in, and belay safely. From there, progress to lead climbing, bouldering, or learning to place your own protection on trad routes.
Why Climb?
Climbing builds strength, balance, mobility, and mental resilience, but it’s also about problem-solving and learning to trust yourself and your partner. Every route is a puzzle, every day on the wall is different.
Whether you want to climb indoors for fitness, explore crags around the UK, or head to mountain routes abroad, adventuro has courses, coaching, and guided climbs for every level.
